Domestic Violence Charges Reduced to Simple Battery

I recently represented a client at the Rio Hondo Courthouse who had been charged with Domestic Violence in violation of Penal Code section 273.5, Penal Code section 245 assault with a deadly weapon, and Penal Code section 417 for brandishing a knife. I was able to negotiate the case, and plea down to a violation of Penal Code Section 242, which is a simple battery. This was a spectacular plea agreement since it was also an immigration safe plea. My client was an immigrant who would have been deported if he were to have been convicted of a violation of Penal Code section 273.5. This case was resolved successfully in a manner that allowed for his immediate release from custody and will not cause his deportation.
